Do you remember back in the 2000s and early 2010s where everything had to be low-waisted? And sometimes very low? It’s been a while since we’ve seen that kind of fashion in stores. There are benefits when it comes to both of these trends and it is interesting to see how long high-waisted fashion remains a hit this time around. Do you have a personal preference?
It is interesting in many ways how big of a difference there is between high-waisted designs and their counterpart. It’s a completely different way of combining outfits. Back in the early 2000s you typically saw very low-waisted jeans combined with a crop top. It became almost too much as one could almost see too much. Now that it is jeans with a higher waist that are popular, while at the same time there are crop tops in fashion again, you can really see the difference.
The rather vulgar tendency becomes less conspicuous when the skin of the abdomen is more covered. Personally, I have found some great options on the webshop Honest Kiss, read more about that here: https://www.onegirlslife.com/style/honest-kiss-this-is-why-i-love-online-shopping
Who (re)introduced this fashion trend?
Back in 2014, this trend got a hold of the fashion industry. Urban Outfitters is potentially one of the trendsetters and one began to see various celebrities with this type of jeans. There was talk of a “macro shift” in the fashion industry. In many ways, it is the infamous millennials who have started the trend or rather reintroduced it. One has to go almost all the way back to the 80s to find the same “shift” within the industry. Wonder how long it will last? Or can it happen that both designs can exist at the same time?
Benefits of high-waisted designs and outfits
A significant advantage of what is called “high rise jeans” is the ability to hide the belly, if it is something you worry about. It also helps to keep it all inside and it provides good support. It is also possible to wear semi-short tops without it becoming vulgar which is a great advantage in terms of clothes for work and other professional contexts.
As for jeans and other trousers, however, it requires a better “fit” as the clothes must fit properly on the thighs, on the buttocks and around the waist.
If you have a different fit than the usual one, this can be a little harder to find. On the other hand, there is a lot of good advice online on how to adapt, for example, jeans to one’s fit. You can also read this article with advice on styling high-waisted pants.
Which is the most appealing, high-waisted or low-waisted?
Since fashion tends to determine what one thinks is pretty versus ugly, it’s hard to be objective on the matter. However, there are also positive things to say about the style that is right in the middle! There is a “normal rise” style that is neither one nor the other. It can be a really good middle ground if you are not into one or the other. Much can also be said about what suits one best depending on one’s body shape. What do you think makes you look your best?
